another 'wets' forecast i'm afraid so we'll stay closer to home.

we'll go out across kenn moor then decide on distance once we know what the weather's doing...

...so perm one from kingweston house, gatcombe (long ashton) or scarletts in clevedon.

don't forget to shoe up with gatorskins as we don't want any punctures. they'll only make us 'cry cry cry...' (as the great bard marti pellow once said.)

PS. i'll be getting as many miles in as possible over the next 2 weeks; so give me a call if you fancy any mid-week spins.

PPS. saturday rides will be uninterrupted by christmas; if somebody can tell me when the next saturday christmas day is, i'll be able to tell you how much longer my marriage will last.

Sounds like a 'sweet little mystery...'
The weather forecast has improved for Saturday so we may actually stay dry.
I'm up for a ride over xmas but can only make - 27th, 30th and 31st.

2021 I think - so 8 more years of enjoying Christmas at home!

I'm available all the days over Christmas but I think any suggestion of getting out on the bike would result in a visit from the anti-Santa and his crew with hacksaws and club hammers resulting in a pile of alu tubes and carbon dust.

Hoping to be out tomorrow - weather permitting. Sort of hoping for rain to wash last week's slurry off.

Took my bike to work today (in the car) to wash off the crud from 2 weeks ago. Y'know - the christmas run.

I was dismayed to see a great deal of rust on my chain - yes rust! Can you believe it? . . . .

    . . . . oh you can?

I guess the roads have salt on them now, so please learn from my mistake chaps and wash your steeds when you get home, not 2 weeks later.

Weather may be dry tomorrow in places. With luck we may miss the worst of it. A nice average 10 degrees, but very windy from south west, so we'll be fighting it on the return leg.

    Secure the rigging shipmates!

saturday 21st december - goin' north Empty Ride report

Post  Martin Sat Dec 21, 2013 4:18 pm

Between 10 and 15 riders turned up for a suprisingly dry day as the forecast was for heavy rain. We set of up the A370 into a slight headwind. At Congesbury we headed towards Nailsea and the up Beaumont hill and on towards the suspension bridge and up over the downs to Kings Weston House where Mr Burns enlightened us on the different types of wood rot. Bernie made a late entrance.
On the way back just past Portishead Adrian had the first of two blow out punctures. This allowed some of the 'senior' members to make some progress while we waited for Ades to replace his innner tube. When we got back to Congesbury we decided to take the A370 back to Weston but the pace must have been too high as this is where Ade's got his second puncture.
Good ride and we managed to stay dry.

    OJC - 2
TTC rating - 8/10 nice big choc chip cookie
    Knacker factor - 6/10

Stats - http://ridewithgps.com/trips/2092308 (avg speed is clearly wrong but that was due to me taking the gps into the cafe and not stopping it)

good ride, 2 highlight's being bernie going AWOL and then annoying the local nutter in the cafe.

check the NON saturday rides thread for details of NON saturday rides, these will be a bit like saturday rides, with the crucial difference that they occur on a different day ('say what you see', as roy walker famously put it.)

now i must get back to my garage door frame as i spotted some rot on it earlier; plenty of fungal contact, but it's been pissing down over the last few days (now is that wet or dry?.....)

You could always ask Andy about fungi - he works with mushrooms all day. Are they classified as wet or dry rot? I suppose that might depend on whether you pick them on a rainy day or not.

Nick - I found the same thing with my chain today. The corrosion appears in three different colours - red, green and yellow. I think its gone all Rustafarian on me (ho, ho, ho).
