Do you remember the cycling group that used to meet every Saturday???

For the second Saturday running the cycling Gods look like being against us, forecast gets worse every time I look.

So, unless there's a last minute change of forecast (details posted friday night IF it happens) we'll have to join up with the Wheelers again and meet on Sunday instead.

9am meet at Priory on Sunday Morning for what is forecast to be a dull but dry ride. We'll head off North and East with a possible stop at Sutton Wick Farm shop or similar.

Route out will be Puxton, Sandford, Churchill should you wish to latch on.

As it's February 14th those of you with romantic alternative arrangements will be given dispensation for not turning up; (so I won't, therefore, be surprised to see a full turn out!!!)

SUNDAY 14th February - It's Velo Time's Day Empty Ride Report

Post  showmethecakes Sun Feb 14, 2016 5:45 pm

Ah ha. The delights of a sunny day in February and Valentines Day to boot. Husbands and wives, boyfriends and girlfriends, boyfriends and boyfriends, girlfriends and girlfriends, sugar daddies and gold diggers, whatever floats your boat, it's the day of lurv.

I left my wife a couple of gifts this morning. The first was an unpleasant smell in the toilet. The second was a pile of washing up left over from last night. I was hoping to get her in the mood for tonight. It worked! She's in a right mood now! Only joking, about her being in a mood that is.

Anyhow, to the ride. Oh, one more thing before I get onto that, thought of a new club motto last night. "We put the ass into class". I'll try and get a latin translation later.

About 30 riders turned up this morning. Unfortunately about 25 of them belonged to some other club that don't have a motto. Truthfully there were about 10 of us and we set off at leisurely pace to Sandford where Lofty departed and Burns the Bread joined.

The pace didn't pick up much all the way to Churchill until Pants on Fire Jeremiah decided to make a bid for the intermediate sprint into Langford. The response was immediate with a raised eyebrow from Ivan before continuing his conversation with Tony the Tiger. Martin seemed very pleased with his sprint win but abandoned shortly afterward so no points there I'm afraid.

We stopped for a bog break in Wrington but no-one felt the urge so we continued up Redhill to the Airport. Jim was having issues with his gears and clearly thought that pouring water over he cassette would help it grow an extra gear. Not to worry, we continued at reasonable pace to Winford and then did the usual stupid rant to the roundabout. We then lost Ivan, Jim and Steve in Chew Magna and proceeded to the Lakeside cafe. Turns out Ivan's little group had gone to the Farm shop at Sutton Wick. After tea and cakes we headed round the lake to meet up with them and headed up onto the Mendips via East Harptree. We waited 6 minutes at the COC for Ivan where we undertook a little sweepstake as to what his excuse might be. Scott guessed correctly - it was the rubbing mudguard again.

The bunch split up on the approach to Burrington with Burns, Tony and Jim chasing Scott down the hill. I then had a 'bag on the roof of the car' moment with a motorist beeping their horn at me as I flew down the hill - so I politely waved back. Turns out she was warning me of the buffalo in the road round the corner. Well, that's what they looked like to me. I wasn't so much concerned about hitting one but took a wide line around the tails raised in salute as I passed.

In Churchill we decided to pay Nick a visit in the hope we might disturb his lurv making. I think all we disturbed was the peaceful neighbourhood but it was good to see him after all these years!

All returned back at base safe and sound.

    Excellent report as usual.

Glad to hear the WCG is living up to its excellent route organisation and its good to know that you are still worrying the local sheep.

You guys should be ashamed of yourselves, the Weston Wheelers beat your distance with a grand total of 58.2 miles

    Love to all
