The first Wednesday of 2015 with 5 riders starting out from Priory. A fresh S wind and the threat of rain governed our choices of route so Bernie decided on Sweets as he felt the need to chat up his favourite waitress there. As we crested Burrington the first spots of rain and a freshening wind meant a hard slog across the Mendips, even on the downhill bits. Cheddar Gorge descent, out of the wind, would have been fairly quick but the leaders had to take avoiding action when confronted with a Bristol Water van hogging the road. We later discovered it was Neil who was aggrieved because cyclists were out when he was working. The rain hit harder whilst taking tea and toast but on restarting we smugly noted the wind would be on our backs on the way home. Pete had consumed a load of white powder at Sweets and lead for a fair part of the way back. He wouldn’t tell us what it was. At the bottom of Bleadon Hill everyone was ready for the easy route back to Uphill so Keith asked Bernie which way. After thinking for a nano second he said “Up”. No surprise there then. We all arrived back still as a Group! Saturday riders take note! No one was left behind at all. Although I did have to work hard to get back in contact after a solo comfort break at Loxton. I think I need to ask Jim for expert advice on the best method.
