15-20 hardy souls arrived at priory for what promised to be a showery ride. good to see bernie, mars and rich harrison out. also a welcome to jeannie and her 'special friend's' fellow tri-boy 'mr. yellow' who came to join us. mr. yellow gave the group sufficient respect to consider us a '3 bottle ride'.... triathletes eh!
first point of interest occurred on the seafront when some elderly interlopers latched on, but bernie put his merry men to work and soon put paid to any hopes they had of keeping up; nice to see gordon though.
tracey seemed to find something very amusing about the team leader's weight at the the base of woolavington hill and was asked to repeat his joke when he eventually got up to him at the top; amazing what 27,000 feet of alpine climbing (and amphetamine's) can do for a chap.
we took the tourist route through bridgwater, marveling at the architecture of sydenham and the high brow wedding party that passed us at parrett bridge traffic lights, one of them was nick's twin sister (the one with just 12 fingers.)
ironically tracey and andy were the only tri-boys who took the tri option at cannington. jeannie, her 'special friend' and 'mr. yellow' opted for the long one, up and over l' Fossé de la Femme Morte and on to doniford. after a 54mph plummet down crowcombe hill, when told of a local nutcase who hit 60 down the hill, jeannie's 'special friend' enquired "mph or K? (whatever they are)" ... triathletes eh!!
at the base of the hill nick, neil and adrian seemed to find some amusement from their team leader's new found climbing legs. as i'm sure you can guess, they were asked to repeat their joke when they caught up with him in williton. adrian made a new 'saturday friend' to discuss roundabout etiquette with at the bottom, which took our minds off the passing shower.
luckily, this was the only bit of rain we got; which added to the delights of the famous doniford afternoon teas pleasured upon us by the willing staff. the tri-numerate then departed early so as not to interrupt too greatly the benefits of a 180k (whatever that is) training ride.... triathletes eh!!!
if only this had made the journey home a sensible one, if only...
with alpine miles in their legs, the 4 holiday weary companion's sauntered home at an average speed of 20mph (??? K) plus. lot's of the usual shenanigans including the team leaders break for freedom out of bridgwater only to hide in a builder's yard, his hopes that the other 3 would be chasing his shadow for the next 15 miles were dashed by neil's beady eyes (you can only tell the same joke so many times!!)
overall a good ride, nick, neil and adrian were very strong but all will have their training regime's curtailed by family holidays in the coming weeks, so this should put paid to any long term fitness hopes, just ask jeannie, her 'special friend' and mr. yellow... triathletes eh!!!!
