forecast for saturday ain't good, so don't hold your breath.... it could be sweets!

however, neil, meirion and i recce'ed a new route around the quantocks today which included a nice range of terrain. paul and i rode a similar route a fortnight ago but failed to find a decent cafe at the half way point being watchet/williton. however, we had a stroke of luck this time when an old lady at the bus stop in williton put us onto an ideal cafe stop in doniford. lots of room for bikes, loads of seating inside and out and good food, meirion's sandwich/cake masterpeice was a steal at £6 which included tea.

i had 77 miles, but this was direct from my house and using the A38 both ways to bridger. i suspect it'll be more like 85/90 by the time we've gone around the toll road, through burnham and woolavington, but it's well worth it.

we can even make it a 2 stopper if we make a cheeky raid on the walled garden in cannington on the return.

if not this weekend, we'll do it on the next dry saturday.

Sounds a good ride to me from where I'm sitting. Will be thinking of you (not). Thought I might go to the beach on Saturday before settling down to an evening of fireworks, bbq and beer. Got some good miles in this morning - bakers was at least 50 metres down the road. I'll be smug while I can - I'll pay for it when I get back.

    Cannington acutually

10 hardy souls tuned up for a forcasted rainy day. The intended destination was Doniford near Watchet. We headed south via Highbridge but at Bridgewater we realised we had lost Bernie. A search party (Ivan) was despatched to find him but we concluded he had turned around and headed home. We continued on to Spaxton and decided with the impending bad weather we should head for Cannington. Most opted for the short route while four of us took the extra 10 mile route via the A39 where Adrian chanlenged Ivan in vain for a sprint to Callington.
Stewart was suffering an on going mechinacal problem with his freehub which meant he lost drive internittantly. Pete jokingly said we should'nt wait for him and karma was duly served when he got a puncture just outside Bridgewater. With a wind behind us we made good progress directly back to Weston and managed to avoid any heavy rain.
