    Ivan says:-

BBC are predicting a rare dry Saturday. So, unless that changes, it's Lyme and no excuses. Let's see how your chit chat holds up after 120 miles

Saturday 29th June 2013 - somewhere in Lyme Regis. Empty Ride report

Post  Martin Sun Jun 30, 2013 11:12 am

We finally had some good weather which bought out 13 riders of whom 7 were going all the way to Lyme Regis.
A direct southerly route was taken via Banwell, Wedmore, Langport, Barrington, Crewkerne, Lyme.
With almost a tail wind the pace down was high. On reaching Lyme we were met by the major and a brass band.
We found a great cafe on the seafront with good views and food. With the sun blazing we managed to top up our cyclists tans.
After lunch some crazy fools decided it would be a good idea to dip their feet in the sea.
The route home began with a nice long climb out of Lyme and then some rolling hills. We stopped at the Esso garage in Langport as the Potting Shed was closed and took on refreshments (5 flapjacks in my case. After skirting around High Ham we turned in to a Westerly wind which was tough going for a few miles. Some people were still feeling good and did the usuall sprint from Woolavington to Watchfield! Ivan kindly waited for me and Jeanie.
    A great day out!

    OJC - 4
Toasted tea cake rating - 9/10 (spicy fish soup followed by ice cream)
    Knacker factor - 9.8

    Stats:- http://ridewithgps.com/trips/1451522
127 miles (more for some riders)
    5500 feet of climbing
    17mph Avg pace

I knew that burger would come in handy on the way home. Still turning out 23 mph along Devonshire Road! Have to say that I would not have been there at that time without a little help from my friends - especially into the wind across the levels! Fantastic ride all the way.

And by the way - I think you were right about turning right at the top of the hill on the way out. Had we gone right instead of left we definitely would have gone along the hypotenuse rather than the sum of the other two sides.

Felt okay when I got home. Reckon I could have gone at least another 100 metres.

You probably would have noticed that I am not out today (Sat 7th). Too many other things to do. Enjoy your ride.

Too much to do, like. .... bash bishop, spank monkey, polish dolphin, choke chicken, tickle terrier, lash lima, pummel pony, whip whippet, rub rabbit, throttle bottle, slaughter sausage, whisk Whelk, sink pink....

    And anything else we've forgotten.

    In sunny Frome.

    Dan will always be ugly.
