Neil, Ivan and I did the Merry Monk today - 100k.
We also saw Stewart, Dave and few others.
Ivan has now joined the Audax scene and I'm sure we will be seeing him grow a long grey beard and wearing mountain bike shoes and a floro green coat soon.
There were about 200 riders and we set off in the second group. Ivan was like a rat up drain pipe and set off like the clappers down from High Ham to Langport. After stopping with Stuart who had a minor prob with his front tyre I set about catching Neil up. We made good progress through the field but by the time we got to the first checkpoint Ivan had been there several minutes.
After a quick coffee and apple cake we then continued our good progress passing many riders. At the lunch stop we had an average speed of 17.6mph! Another quick refuel (ginger and lime cheese cake followed by beans on toast) and we set of for the finish. I was struggling to keep up with Ivan and Neil but we all made it up the last hill to High Ham.
We passed plenty of riders and never got overtaken by any other riders.
We got a total time of 4 hours 40 mins which was just over 1 hour quicker than I did it last year!
17.3mph average.
As usual the food at the finish was excellent - rice pudding, lemon cake, banana cake, sweets.
Remind me to ride with Stewarts group next year :-)
