Get up fool, you ain't hurt, git sum nuts!

Weather looks okay in the morning with a variety of forecasts available for the afternoon, so we'll stay fairly local and ride together on the way, then those who want a longer ride can loop home if the weather allows.

We'll twiddle to Scarlett's in Clevedon. Route out will be Puxton, Sandford, Churchill should you wish to latch on. I'll try to make distance to Scarlett's as close to 30.32 miles as I can (My idea of a cycling challenge these days!)

Just watched Antiques Roadshow. Reminded me of us lot going out on a Saturday.

Like the Tour of Flanders this ride got off to a slow start. Even by Churchill there was little interest in spicing it up. Then to cause furthe delay Ivan's rear exhaled it's last and slowly deflated to a soft squidgy blob of rubberyness. As Ivan set about fixing his puncture we pulled over in Wrington central. As we soaked up the rays drinking cocktails we marvelled at the carnival procession that passed by. The fire eaters, jugglers and wild animals all added a South American feel to the occasion while grass skirted women girated their hips in front of us. Just before Ivan reappeared the carnival moved on and we returned to normal, pretending nothing had happened.

The magical mystery tour rolled out of Wrington towards Burrington but then took a devious left down a muddy, damp and gravel ridden lane. After a few more twists and turns we arrived in the home of brown beer - Butcombe. If any beer is going to be brown with a frothy white top it has to be Butcombe. Mmmm.

At a junction there wa some doubt about the route. Was it up the hill to the left or up the hill to the right? I know Ivan had clear specs on but even I was amazed he did not see the 20% sign. There was plenty of downshifting as the road went skyward. A few bailed out half way up but Ade made the top in the big ring while others struggled for traction on the damp surface. Nick did a great impression of Tom and Jerry where his feet were spinning like the clappers but nothing was moving forwards.

At the top there were three choices of road. Two of them dry and one covered in shite. Wonder which one we went down? At the bottom Phil led the way up to the airport where Lofty took over the reins on the run down Brockley. After a regrouping there was a resplitting as a small but by no means inadequate group set off for Clevedon. It was at this point that sadly Phil was seen no more. Even sadder was the fact that no one noticed until half way through tea and buns in the cafe.

The bunch just about held together until Yatton where it exploded like an......explosion! Riders shot off in all directions. The strangest moment must have been when Ade passsed Jeannie in the opposite direction across Puxton Moor. Lofty did a good job of dragging his old man home all the way from Wick St Lawrence.

Glad I took that waterproof jacket with me. Certainly benefited from it during all those heavy thundery showers that were forecast on the BBC the night before.
