It's not been too long since we last crossed Hartley's threshold, but we need to make up for the long break prior to our last visit.

We'll approach Binegar from its bottom, meaning an approach from Chewton Mendip; so initial route will be Puxton, Sandford, Churchill, Red Hill, should you wish to latch on.

Route out will be 35 ish, so some may want to unhitch at Chew Valley en route.

Saturday 31st December - benediction Empty Last Ride Report of 2016!

OFSTED were clearly in the neighbourhood again. Ivan instantly feeling unwell again and unable to make the last ride of the year. I would be taking the piss at this stage but I believe it is a complex illness with an initial bout of motorcyclyitis compounded by scivyitis. On top of that doctors also think he may have contracted lazyitis and lack-of-fitnessism. Apparently the cure is quite simple. Get some quality miles in without the motor!

Journalism is supposedly all about giving a fair and balanced account. It is therefore only fair to mention the fact that Jeremiah (Pants on fire) didn't make the ride either and that both of you were put to shame by a one legged man who rode up Redhill to the Airport before turning back.

What you missed was a marvellous outing to Hartley's. It all began with a Puxton to Sandford shit fest whence methinks a farmer had overfilled his shite spreader and deposited the excess on the road. Neil took the lead and kindly helped the farmer spread his muck about 6 feet into the air and about 10 feet behind. Mrs W wasn't impressed with the eau de dung when I returned home.

Stopped at Wrington bogs but not sure why as I don't think anyone actually used the facilities. Steve was keen to get on and set off up Redhill so we all followed (baa). One idiot driver hit the gas as we circulated around the runway and thundered off along the tarmac. Okay, that was an aeroplane taking off.

Despite mentions of splits in the group it stayed together all the way to Hartley's and 15 mud spattered riders deposited their muck onto Mr H's floor. Karl was knocking back filter coffees faster than they could refill his cup while Burns tucked into his eggs boobedict. RSP tried to buy a whole tart for £4:50 but they were already short of staff and couldn't afford to let another one go.

The larger portion of the group set off into the fog about 5 minutes before the A team departed. There was mention of us catching them up which might explain Karl's effort to drag us all to Cheddar at a good speed. What we didn't bargain on was the other group going a completely different way!

Very grateful to Neil and Karl for dragging us all home safely. There was mention of a possible ride on Monday for those who might be interested. Personally I'll be squeezing every last drop of gin out of the bottle in preparation for work on Tuesday. Happy new year to everyone and see you all in 2017.
