Be it a torn knee. ankle or scrotum, it seems that few winters manage to pass without cold months of frustrating agony in the William's household.

Can anybody remember a February ride with Nick???

And then.... Just like a teacher who missed an ofsted through illness, he springs back onto the road, full of vigour once the fair weather returns.

So this year, let's all join in with the fun. Place your suggestions here for this year's ailment. Nick can then read through and choose his favourite, ready for January.

It will be helpful if you could also throw in some symptoms, estimated recovery periods and suggested treatments to add some authenticity.

Get well cards at the ready and don't forget to say farewell if you should see him on the road, but don't dilly dally....

I predict a mild case of faffitus.

Symptons - failure to get up when the alarm clocks goes off, trying on endless cycling clothes combinations before leaving the house, chatting to strangers, worried by wet stuff falling from the sky.

Recovery time - very difficult to predict

Cure - rocket up the ar5e.

Seriously, though I hope you can make through the winter :-)

    Dear Ivan & Martin,

I’m touched by your concern for my general health and commitment to the club. Your thoughtfulness on this matter and attentiveness toward me should be recognised and applauded.

However, I think it only fair to fore warn you of the results from my recent emergency appointment at the local STD clinic. We already knew that I have the hepatitis B virus (HBV) from extreme promiscuity and subsequent HIV, but unfortunately the Hepatitis C virus now also looks likely. This may indeed affect my attendance over the 'coming' months.

Bearing in mind that I have slept with both of you and that HBV and HIV are bloodborne viruses, transmitted through sexual contact, I would suggest you get your liver checked out before it suffers chronic failure.

Ps. I promise to keep our special relationship secret

How about if I throw myself in front of a car? . . .

    Does that qualify?

In view of your balls being left on the bonnet of the car I reckon you've got a couple of Tour de France wins in you.
