Welcome to the Weston Chain Gang forum. We are a group of cyclists that ride regularly from Weston-super-Mare. We meet at Priory school on Saturday at 8:45. Rides vary in distance between 60 and 100 miles with a stop for cake. Ridet nec genere!

    Yep it's the fifth of November, time to scour the common for things that the everyday folks have left behind, I think.....

    Anyway, this week we'll darken Mr Hartley's passage once more. Route out will be Puxton Sandford Winscombe Cheddar should you wish to latch on.

    We'll be passing through Wells should you be feeling Tri-curious.

    Disappointing ride this week. Where have all the slimy mud covered farm tracks gone? Why did nobody fall off? How come we managed to get breakfast? We must be getting a bit soft!

    According to maths teacher Mr Clapson, 1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1 equals about 14 or 15. At least that's what he told Mr Hartley when he called from Cheddar. There were actually 19 of us which wasn't a bad turn out these days. Scott had joined on late as usual. I don't know why he does that, everyone knows how much he struggles to catch up.

    Usual rant to Cheddar where Paul suffered a puncture. It's good to see some things never change. The 'disinclined to rant' group set off for Wedmore leaving the rest at the garage. Ivan then spotted Adrian hanging around and thought it only fair to pace him to Wedmore while the rest waited for Paul. Looking around, that left a group of Andy, Paul, Scott and Neil. Martin and I looked at each other and had the same thought. We rapidly departed with Ivan and Ade. Inevitably the banana train steamed past after about a mile and continued nonstop to Wedmore.

    On leaving Wedmore a small group broke away. Thinking we'd got away the pace was kept up at around 22's. After about 2 miles the jolly green giant was on the back with Neil making a group of 7. Ivan did his turn on th front. Unfortunately it was like following a 40 ton truck, fantastic slipstream along the flat but struggling up the hills. As a small hump appeared Scott and Neil went to the front. As if it wasn't bad enough following them up the hill we then went down the other side and along the flat close to 37 mph. It did slow down long enough for most to latch on again before rumbling on for a few miles more. Eventually banana power destroyed most of the field with Andy the last to cling on. In dribs and drabs we filed into Wells.

    After the discomfort of a push up the Horringtons(!) we gathered at Hartley's for a hearty breakfast. Most people ordered something with a dick in it. Benedict, Floredict..etc. Others ordered anything with the word cake in, tea cake, pancake...etc. Steve just ordered everything on a plate.

    After refreshments the group split up for the ride home. Scott had already covered himself in cream and chocolate sauce. He was the banana split (boom, boom!). The more 'cautious' riders set off first heading for Priddy and Cheddar. The rest followed the Mendip motorway towards Burrington. There were various splits along the way with a stiff headwind to contend with. Ivan arrived last at the bottom of the Coomb a good 11 minutes after the first riders. Turns out the puncture proof strips he had inserted into his tyres had worked wonders. No punctures. Just a shame his front tyre looked like the kind of balloon you'd twist to make a sausage dog.

    I believe everyone arrived home safely. OJC: 2. TTCR: 8/10, KFC: 6/10. Special mention to Ade who not only got all the way round but also had the sense to park his car halfway home so he could laugh at us as he drove by!

    Thanks for your support yesterday guys, I wouldn't have got from Green Ore to the bottom of Burrington without you.

    Check out the flybys to see what happens when there's nobody in the pack looking out for stragglers.

    Could somebody please explain the equation in Dick's report, I lost count after the tenth one, I ran out of fingers.
