Is there a cafe in Crewkerne? I'm sure somebody will want to find out, but I'm pretty sure we all will on Saturday!!! (Failing that it'll be mars bars and monster munch from a garage.) Either way, this will be a good teaser for Lyme (just awaiting that lovely southerly, the last two years we've gone on the first TdF Saturday, so why break with tradition?)

We'll be heading out via Toll Road, Sea Front, Anchor, Brent Knoll should you wish to latch on.

Full route will be about 99, tri-stoppers can alight at Truckers or Langport as we'll be going past the bottom of Pedwell and up High Ham.

Mr Google gives 2 options - No. 7 or Strawberry Fayre. The second looks better as we might be able to squeeze the bikes in out front (just off the high street).

    I'm glad its not a 100 miler :-)

Do these cafes have any secret places where bikes can be hidden. Y'know, behind chains, in bushes, on roofs, etc? Just thought I'd ask.

    Not that I'll be there or anything. Firstly I couldn't ride 99 miles . . . yet.

Saturday 20th June - Crewkerne Empty Ride report

Post  Martin Sat Jun 20, 2015 7:16 pm

We had 15 riders a ride south despite the threat of rain. It was good to see wayne back in the saddle.
When we got to Brent Knoll we came across a peleton of 5 riders who turned out to be some of the original WCG - Gordon, Roger, Dave and a couple of others.
While stopped at the toilets Rich regailed us with gruesome details of a medical documentary he had seen on TV. At Burtle we took a left down the corragated causeway and then over the A39 to head towards High Ham. At Pedwell we said goodbye to Bernie, Keith, Ian and a few others. The usual shinanigans kicked off with Ade and Miche forming a break away. Ade pulled all the way to the bottom of the hill where Miche took over and took the honors. The rest of us failed to get organised so were left chassing. At Langport we saw another 5 riders leave us which left 5 of us to continue on to Crewkerne. We took the route we normally use to get to Lyme Regis but when we got to the A30 we turned left and headed into Crewkerne. We eventually found the cafe and enjoyed sitting outside taking in the Saturday market stalls. As we were leaving an older lady struck up conversation and commented on Ivans shaved legs which she seemed very keen on. The return leg was a bit difficult as we faced a strong westerly. At Lower Godney Tony had puncture but did a quick job of replacing his tub. We had a second pit stop (splas and dash) at Sweets then it was the final push for home with only a suicidal white van driver trying to take out Miche across the moors. Once back in Weston we dodged the Air day traffic enjoyed a tail wind down Locking road. Ivan was pleased with the ride as he didnt break the 100 mile barrier with 99.9 miles.
