Keep up lad! Thu Apr 23, 2015 5:52 pm
Sunshine but a cold NE wind saw 10 riders leave Priory with Adrian tagging on at the last minute. Our usual rant up Wick Road to the A370 (we approached 15mph at times) caused Adrian to decide the pace was too high for him and left us to do his own thing.
The climb up Wrington hill was won by Tony or Martin or Malcolm or Sam, (I think) but the leaders were so far in front I can’t be sure! After regrouping we dropped down to Cleeve and on to Nailsea.
We waited sometime at the top of Belmont for Pete but, unknown to us he had missed the left turn at the bottom and continued on as far as Flax Bourton before realising his mistake. He eventually made it to the café and received a round of applause for his perseverance. Once again it was a café without jam. Or marmalade. Or much else. We were offered toast with cream!!! Really? Some of us settled instead for a bacon sandwich which was surprisingly good. Those hoping to ogle the waitress from last time were disappointed as she had been replaced by a more down market version.
Malcolm left us before the café to head back early but the rest of us had an extended tea break before heading home via coast road then Clevedon and Yatton, except for Tony who decided Kingston Seymour would be a nicer route. A light tail wind helped us achieve a nice average of 24.4 mph on the Congesbury to Wick Road segment, arriving back a lot warmer than when we left.
See you all next week.
