at last, rather than banging on about 98's, 99's and the odd 100 feeling all smug, let's do a proper ride to the south coast.

fair chance this'll break the 100, last time it was 125, but that was at low tide!  Surprised

forecast is pretty good; dry, broken cloud and 19 degrees, so what's your excuse? only slight niggle could be the forecast 10mph north easterly, but with keira, ian carpenter and andy salter pulling on the front the journey home shouldn't be too bad.

triathlete option will be langport or similar.

if forecast should change for the worse we'll stick closer to home.

PS... who fancies another 'Tour Draw' (TdF) sweepstake?
£1 in, winner takes all and we'll draw as many riders as we have entrants.
draw to take place on saturday 28/6, monies to me by then please, you can't join in without a coin in as they say (who?...when?...where?... dunno, but it sounded good.)

The word 'bugger' springs to mind! Can't afford to be out all day so it will be the tri option for me. Shame really as I was looking forward to a 40lb burger and chips with a pint of coke before riding home. Disappointed does not adequately describe how I feel about missing the ride. More like "Hooray - no need to drag a three course meal up the hill out of Lyme!"

Martin - I voted in your 'Which rider crashed poll". I think I was the only one who did. Can you spill the beans yet and tell us who it was!

I'm looking forward to Lyme on Saturday. I'm going to attempt the burger challenge ie eat one and climb the hill without wanting to barf!

    I'd forgotten about the poll!
    Drum roll for the result...

It was Dave B who almost got run over by a car overtaking.

    and

Paul B who went over the bars when playing chicken with an on coming car across the moors.

Rich, if it makes you feel any better I won't be riding to Lyme either . . . . .

in fact, I won't be riding at all.

In my opinion the ride should be cancelled immediately as some of the most important key players can't take part. The ride should be diverted to Truckers or somewhere else equally as exciting.

    There, I've said it !

    Hope it bloody rains !

Saturday 14th June - Lymey, that's good! Empty Ride report

Post  Martin Sun Jun 15, 2014 2:03 pm

A good turnout for a wonderfully warm and sunny day. We set off south with the destination of the south coast - Lyme Regis. With a following wind we took the direct route of - Puxton, Sandford, Axbridge, Wedmore, Shapwick and on to Langford where most riders stopped at the garden centre cafe. Ivan, Jeanie, Meirion, Adrian and myself continued on via Barrington, CrewKerne. Once we crossed the A35 we enjoyed the long and fast decent into Lyme.
We choose Jane's cafe at the end of the prom for lunch. There was plenty of choice on the menu and the prices seemed resonable but the food was only 'acceptable'. I had pasty and chips which was only just warm enough. Desert was much better - ice cream cornets - horay.
The very steep 500 yard climb from the prom was very challenging and the long climb up through Uplyme was not too bad and we all managed to keep our lunches down. The route back was via the main roads to Axminster and Chard. We had plenty of motorists signalling their approval of cycling by beeping their horns and trying to run us off the road. When we got to the A303 we took the A358 towards Taunton on the main road. Ivan did a great job into the head wind. At the top of the hill we took a right at the traffic lights and stopped at the petrol station to refuel with drinks and chocolate. Not too much further on we stopped again at North Curry at the community cafe. It was 4pm and we were enjoying strawberries in the sun when my wife phoned me to find out how far from home i was as I had promissed to be back by then to go to a bbq. With an ETA of 630pm she wasn't best pleased and left for the bbq on her own! Meanwhile we continued into the headwind with Ivan doing the majority of work.

    TTC - 4/10
    OJC - 6?
KF - 7.5/10 - long ride but at a sensible pace

Jealousy is not a state of mind that I generally harbour for specific occasions, but it has to be said that the Lyme ride this Saturday prompted me to think in this way. However, I hope to be back up to strength in the very near future to enjoy more protracted Saturday rides.

Shame about the mediocre pasty and chips Martin, but it sounded as though the ice cream cornets and strawberries more than made up for it.

Oh by the way, how's your marriage looking?

Are you sure you spelled that correctly Martin? Did she have any whinges to go with her whines? Your wife is very accomodating! I'd be extracting parts of my hacksawed bicycle from my rear end by now.
