It's that time of year again!

Forecast is great so let's take advantage.

We could break the 100 barrier but most likely 90 something.

Somerset 100 is on Sunday so shorter option of kingweston will be pretty easy, but why not break the 200 barrier for the weekend?

saturday 17th may - Berkeley!!!!...... or Bristol Empty Ride report - short version

Post  Martin Mon May 19, 2014 10:59 am

My usual method of getting inspiration (drinking wine/beer) to write the ride report failed on Saturday night so here is what i can remember :-)

15 fair weather riders turned out for a hot and sunny day!
We set off for Berkeley up the A370 to Congesbury, Yatton, Nailsea, Wraxall, Belmont hill, Clifton and Blaize estate where half the riders stopped.
The usual suspects including a new recruit Tony continued on via Hallen, Pilning, Tockington and then the back roads by Oldbury to Berkeley.
The return leg was a departure from the usual route as Ivan led us back via a tour of the local prisons - Wick, Tortworth, Leyhill (HMP) Rangeworthy, Westerleigh, Pucklechurch (HMP) and Bitton. We had planned to stop at Bitton but decided it was probably too busy and continued on to Saltford, Pensford to Chew Magna where we stopped at the Coop for much needed refreshments which were enjoyed outside on the pavement in the blazing sun. From there back via the usual Bristol airport and Congresbury.
Hats off to Ivans navigation skills for getting us to Berkeley via the back roads and then back from Berkeley to Bitton all with out getting lost!
    An excellent 103 miles.

Toasted Tea Cake rating (TTC) - 9/10 toasted tea cake, rock cake with ginger followed by banana and choc cake - ummm.
Official Jersey Count (OJC) - Only 2!
Knacker Factor (KF) - 8/10 long but not hard!

That makes for an interesting situation at Blaise. 15 riders turned out and half stopped at Blaise. Who managed to split themselves in half? The wine and beer has clearly had an affect.
I agree with a chapeaux to Ivan for excellent navigation. That is until we got to the Bristol/Bath cycle path and Ivan tried to divert us into a river. Great ride. Did anyone get 50mph down Redhill? Wind was a bit too strong - I only got 46mph.
