it's been a while since we had a really long one and some have never had a really long one. ever wondered what it's like? well, here's the perfect opportunity.

this could be our first 100 of the year, but i'm sneakily hoping it'll be a 99'er (if so, no sneaky laps of the back garden when we get home.)

i will not try to convince you that this will be easy, it'll be a bit like the freshford ride with another 15 miles tacked on. however, we will go pretty direct to/from bridger each way.

forecast is excellent; sunny, though not excessively warm (12/13 degrees.)

sane riders can hop off at pines.

Saturday 3rd May - Pines or Dunster Empty Ride report

Fourteen riders set off from Priory on what promised to be a glorious day, but it started off quite cold. We had two new riders joined us - Sam and Peter? We headed south in search of the sun via the toll road, Uphill, Burnham-on-Sea and the A38 to Bridgwater. We then headed up in to 'them there hills' but instead of going via Enmore we skirted around the side via a somewhat easier climb to Pines. Here Ivan made some running repairs to his cleats and most people stopped for brekkie. Ivan, Nick, Ade and myself continued on with the intension of going to Dunster. Most of us enjoyed the step and bumpy desent of Crowcombe but Ivan broke a spoke so was understandably cautious. We made running repairs and decided it was prudent to return to Pines. So we had to climb all the way back up Crombcombe. At the cafe Ivan was able to call out the emergency service (his wife) to come and pick him up. We met the rest of the gang as they were just leaving. Richard decided he wanted an easier pace going back so decided to stay with us. Nick was on form with his puns. On leaving the cafe we met some friendly bikers of the motorised kind who were from Ireland (home of the Giro d'Italia).
The decent down Enmore was very enjoyable as the weather had perked up and we didn't encounter any cars or horses. Once through Bridgwater we hit the A38 and the pace went up to 22mph and it didn't drop below 20mph until we reached Uphill where we met Sam and Pete! We all did turns on the front with Nick doing the majority of work. On entering Weston sea front we could tell it was Bank holiday as we encountered a few drongo drivers but we enjoyed the sun glistening on the mud.
Ivan is planning a ride on Bank holiday Monday. Details to follow but we will probably take a couple of cars up to north of Bristol and ride around Tetbury etc.

    OJC - 2
TTC - 3/10 cold backed beans on warmed white bread (not toasted). Very expensive and not even shabby chic
KF - 7/10 - fast on the way back which seems to be common these days.
