love (and clouds) will be all around according to bbc.

we'll head east and see where we end up, possibly bishop's sutton via wedmore/wells if it's dry enough.

we'll complete the compass point trilogy on the next dry saturday with a visit to the quantocks.

saturday 4th january - love is all around Empty Ride report

Post  Martin Sat Jan 04, 2014 6:51 pm

Ten brave riders eventually appeared at the Sainsburys bus shelter where we sheltered from the rain. Ivan was missing his usual mojo but led us bravely towards Sutton Wick via Sandford and Shipham. We reached the top of the Mendips but found we were missing Ivan. He turned up about 20 minutes later after fixing two punctures. We continued over the Mendips and down to Chewton Mendip and then out on the road to West Harptree at a speed of about 20 odd miles an hour. Just before East Harptree up a slight slope Pete had a very nasty accident. We are not sure exactly what happened but he possibly touched the back of Ivans wheel and hit the tarmac very hard. He ended up in the middle of the road unconcious. Luckily the car behind us which was just about to overtake us managed to stop. An ambulance was called but it took 45 mins before it appeared. Pete was treated for a nasty cut to his head and a possible broken pelvis. Not long after the first ambulance appeared it was joined by 3 police cars another ambulance and a helicopter. The medics decided it was best to put him in one of the ambulances and take him to Bath hospital.
Hopefully Pete will make a quick recovery.
Thanks to everyone who helped Pete particularly Steve, Neil and Merion who held him up and supported.

obviously our thoughts are with pete and his family right now, get well soon matey.

but, more importantly i reckon pete got the group it's first bit of media coverage... the radio bristol travel report (1 hour road closure)

    all publicity's good publicity!

    knacker factor - 11/10 (ride = 2/10 + standing in the freeeeeezing rain for 2 hours = 20/10)

    ojc - 1??

ttcr - ? though the naughty hot chocolate was very mischievous (so nhcr = 10/10)
