I’ll be buggered if I’m going to adopt the role of ‘official forum reporter’ but I couldn’t let the forum go without a few words and if I feel like it I will write something half interesting, so here’s the Glastonbury ride then . . . .
As I missed the start at Worle (punctuality is not my strong point) I decided to intercept the group at Brent Knoll. Eventually, after waiting 20 minutes the ‘Weston peloton’ turned up, minus it’s leader. Mr Clapson had introduced the group to his latest winter hack, but as the rear derailleur was made out of balsa wood the machine unfortunately failed to perform, so back home for the trusty Condor.
We proceeded on our merry way, south through Woolavington and the outskirts of Bridgwater and then in an easterly fashion through Westonzoyland (what a stupid name), past the old airfield where a train-spotter type was playing with his model aeroplane. The rest of the journey to Glastonbury took us on an undulating and rather splendid scenic route around Compton Dundon. We were rewarded with marvellous views of a sun soaked Glastonbury Tor, which for me made the ride all the more enjoyable.
Heaphey’s was the usual stop, where we once again immersed ourselves in hippy culture and Mr Burns undulged in some people watching (females mainly).
The route back via Blackford and Lower Weare presented no mishaps and on arriving home I realised that after a week of rain we had been blessed with a very decent weather window - happy days ! . . . .
. . . . after that it pissed down!
Until the next time then - unless Martin is feeling creative with his writing skills.
